How can Adler & Allan help meet Biodiversity Net Gain requirements?

Navigating Biodiversity Net Gain regulations can be challenging, especially with changing legislation. We help by assessing your site, calculating biodiversity values, and identifying cost-effective solutions to meet the required 10% gain. Whether it's on-site enhancements, off-site options, or biodiversity credits, we ensure your project stays compliant and on track.

What if my development site has little or no existing biodiversity?

Sites with low biodiversity can still meet Biodiversity Net Gain requirements, but they may need additional habitat creation or off-site solutions. We can assess your site and develop a tailored strategy to achieve compliance in the most efficient way, minimising delays and unexpected costs.

Will Biodiversity Net Gain cause delays to my planning application?

If biodiversity planning is not addressed early, it can lead to delays, extra costs, or even planning refusal. We work with you from the start to streamline the process, provide the necessary assessments, and ensure your application meets all Biodiversity Net Gain regulations, helping you avoid setbacks.

What happens if I don’t meet Biodiversity Net Gain requirements?

Failure to comply with Biodiversity Net Gain regulations can result in planning application refusals, delays, or additional costs to rectify non-compliance. Ensuring your project meets Biodiversity Net Gain standards from the start will help avoid setbacks and secure planning approval faster.

Integrate and manage strategies

Align biodiversity net gain with nature-based solutions, nutrient neutrality, and ESG goals. We help manage costing, ownership models, and long-term monitoring plans for sustained success.

Enhance climate resilience

Ensure species selection supports long-term biodiversity by adapting to climate change challenges, including rising temperatures, changing precipitation patterns, and habitat shifts.

What is biodiversity net gain?

Under the Environment Act 2021, all new developments in England must deliver at least a 10% net gain in biodiversity, ensuring that nature is left in a better state than before. This is measured using Defra’s biodiversity metric, which assesses the impact on habitats and wildlife.

Developers must enhance biodiversity either on-site or through off-site improvements, with all gains legally secured and maintained for at least 30 years. If on-site improvements are not feasible, biodiversity credits can be purchased to meet the requirement.

Biodiversity net gain is now a crucial factor in planning applications, affecting developers, landowners, and businesses. Ensuring compliance not only meets legal obligations but also supports
